Pioneered and led by Mashable, socializing media is celebrated on June 30th as “Social Media Day” since 2009. Participated by thousands of people, “Social Media Day” has become a phenomenon with the celebrations held in 346 cities up until now.

The globalizing world has brought about a fundamental change on the media and their major components. Known as the traditional media in the literature, physically-formed printed and visual mass communication technologies has had a tendency of convergence. Created as a concept against the traditional one, social media has substantially changed how communities and individuals communicate by adding the interactivity dimension to the definition of the modern world communication. Interaction offered by the social media in spite of the passive use imposed by the traditional one has enabled users to be individual content producers. The produced content has yielded unusual social outcomes and created many cultural and economic values.
